Essential Fatty Acids and Human Health

We humans require Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) to maintain good health.

They play a part in many metabolic processes and are imperative for brain function. EFAs also help with inflammations, and dry conditions in the skin and eyes. Fish and omega-3 fatty acids may be linked to decreased rates of major depression.

Excellent food sources for EFAs are fish and shellfish; flaxseed; hemp, soya and canola oils; chia, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, leafy vegetables and walnuts.
