A new survey by Carlisle & Gallagher says that a third of consumers would consider Walmart for a mortgage loan while half would consider Pay Pal. While neither company has announced plans to move into the mortgage business, this could open up the door for more retailers to offer the business as a sideline. The danger is that most companies that do this full time have a major disconnect between marketing and underwriting. One of the major reasons for a real estate deal falling apart is the mortgage process. I recommend that you use a mortgage specialist that is physically located in the same city that you are buying in. This way you can meet with and have better contact with the underwriter. Internet or long distance mortgage companies offer more significant challenges which buyers do not need during the process.
