Illinois ATV park opens new trails

NEBO, Ill.&nbsp; &ndash; What was already the state&rsquo;s largest ATV park is almost twice as big following the ribbon-cutting Saturday at Harpole&rsquo;s Heartland Lodge.Owner Gary Harpole added 450 acres to the 700 acres of trails that riders have been enjoying for 15 years, and opened it to the public over the weekend.The trails go through fields, into woods, onto dirt paths and past many scenic spots. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s riding for all levels,&rdquo; Harpole told the Journal-Courier. &ldquo;Anybody that owns an ATV, a side-by-side or a dirt bike that is looking for a place to ride can come out and ride.&rdquo;Riders will have to get an off-highway vehicle sticker to comply with a state program that helped fund the expansion of the park that took place over the past year. MONTEREY, Calif. &ndash; Racing fans are mourning the loss of two Spanish racers who were killed Sunday in a chain-reaction, multi-bike incident on the first lap of the second MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.&nbsp; &nbsp;Bernat Martinez, of Alberic, Valencia, Spain, was transported from the raceway by ambulance to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) in Monterey, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was 35.Daniel Rivas Fernandez, of Moana Galicia, Spain, was transported by REACH Medical Air Services to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, where he also succumbed to injuries. A hobby and a layoff lead to Vintage Sled Connection

EAGLE HARBOR, N.Y. &ndash; A passion for vintage snowmobiles has gone from hobby to business for a longtime enthusiast who found his niche.Mike Donnelly launched Vintage Sled Connection July 13, a choice he made after he was laid off from his job at a Rochester tool supply company. The Motorcycle Mechanics Institute grad did a course at Orleans County Micro-Enterprise Assistance Program this spring, and opened the shop to restore and repair snowmobiles, ATVs and other vehicles.Donnelly owns 10 restored snowmobiles from the late 1960s to late 1970s. &ldquo;&ldquo;There&rsquo;s a network of people restoring and collecting, and it&rsquo;s growing,&rdquo; he told the Daily News. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re the addicts still working on them in the middle of the summer.&rdquo;Vintage Sled Connection specializes in Ski-Doo, Arctic Cat and Polaris snowmobiles from the 70s, along with early- to mid-1980s Honda and Yamaha ATVs and ATCs. Donnelly already has a base of customers for general maintenance on snowmobiles and ATVs, and specialty parts and long-term restoration projects. CBM Cycles to close in Osceola, reopen as Elkhart Indian

ELKHART, Ind. &ndash;&nbsp;The folks at CBM Cycles in Osceola are going to be very busy for the next few weeks, with a move to a larger site and a name change under the Indian banner on the schedule by Sept. 11.That&rsquo;s the day the shop will reopen as Elkhart Indian Motorcycle, the result of an eight-month process to get approved as an Indian dealer. The next closest Indian dealership is&nbsp;70 miles away in Merrillville.&ldquo;Our customer base has grown really nicely and we needed a new location to accommodate all the work we&rsquo;re doing,&rdquo; general manager Ann Schelle told the Elkhart Truth.&nbsp;&ldquo;We learned that expanding at the same time might be a good idea, so we reached out to Indian.&rdquo;The face of the new store will be Indian, but near the service center in the back will be used Harley-Davidson sales.&ldquo;There&rsquo;s been a rumor going around that because we&rsquo;re an Indian dealership we&rsquo;re not going to touch Harleys,&rdquo; Schelle said.&nbsp;&ldquo;That is absolutely false. Nothing about our service is going to change.&rdquo;CBM&rsquo;s Osceola location will close in September. Intended to be stronger, easier to paint and better at retaining their shape than competing products, the bags have a retail price of $429.95 each. The four-inch extension across the bottom of the bags gives added space and is easily bolted onto a motorcycle. These bags also accept any OEM or aftermarket lids or hardware, and are designed for use with a dual exhaust, eliminating the need for alterations. The saddlebags are available for 2014-15 FLHT, FLHR, FLHX and FLTRX models. &nbsp;&nbsp;The Forward Control Relocation Kit ($109.95) relocates the forward controls approximately one inch rearward for shorter riders.
