If you believe the federal government, a Colorado bank was the largest New Mexico-based mortgage lender last year.
But if you exempt Vectra Bank Colorado, which has 39 branches in Colorado and one in Farmington, the biggest New Mexico-based lender in 2011 was Suburban Mortgage of Albuquerque, which edged past Los Alamos National Bank by $8 million to claim the local title.
Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data for 2011 submitted by the lenders gives Suburban Mortgage the lead, at $220 million in mortgages to $212 million for Los Alamos National Bank, which had become the in-state leader after the feds closed Charter Bank, the biggest mortgage lender in New Mexico for many years.
